Almost any story element you’ve ever read, appreciated, or seen pigeon-holed can be part of the genre loosely labeled “urban fantasy.” At its heart, urban fantasy is simply a story that occurs in a place and time familiar to the reader, but that story can be affected by forces or beings considered magical.
